White, Stauffer Named Atlantic 10’s Performers Of The Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure’s Michael White was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week while Duquesne’s Abigail Stauffer was named the Women’s Performer of the week. Also honored was Fordham freshman Joseph Vizza, who was named the Men’s Rookie of the Week and freshman teammate Amelia Bullock who was named the Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were based off performances from meets held Nov. 7-13.

The Bonnies earned a 167-131 win over Canisius led by White, who had three first-place finishes: 200 butterfly (1:54.45), 100 butterfly (51.14) and 200 IM (1:54.24). His finish in the 200 IM was over seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher (2:01.63). The senior from Gilbert, Ariz., also helped the 400 medley relay team to a win (3:32.15).

Stauffer finished first in the 100 backstroke in Friday’s 159-100 win over Toledo with a time of 1:05.87. The sophomore from Chambersburg, Pa., had another first place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.44. She also took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.63, and was part of Duquesne’s first place 400 medley relay team that finished in 3:54.86.

Vizza was again among Fordham’s top performers at the Big Al Open, hosted by Princeton. The native from North Wales, Pa., kicked off the invitational meet with a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.97) and followed with a fifth place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:40.09). He finished sixth as a part of the 400 medley relay in 3:33.25. On Saturday, he grabbed fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:42.88), 13th in the 100 backstroke (53.87), sixth in the 800 freestyle relay (7:03.87) and 13th in the 100 freestyle (47.42). The freshman capped off the meet by placing sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.80).

Bullock was the only Ram to win an individual event at the Big Al Open this past weekend, taking first in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.53. The swimmer from Westport, Conn., added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.44), while being a part of the 200 medley relay that grabbed third in 1:47.74. She also placed 13th in the 200 IM (2:09.32), and fifth in both the 200 freestyle (1:38.28) and 400 medley (3:55.68) relay events.
