West Virginia Adds Maryland Sprint Champion MacKenzie Getz to Class of 2029

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

MacKenzie Getz from Crofton, Maryland, has joined the West Virginia University Mountaineers in the class of 2029. At the time of her commitment, at the end of July, she wrote:

“Very late post, but i’m so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at West Virginia University! I’m incredibly grateful to Coach Brent, Coach Michael, Coach Sydney, Coach James, and Coach David for this amazing opportunity. Thank you so much to my club coaches, Coach Rob and Coach Brian for helping me get here. And thank you to my friends, and especially my family who have supported me on this journey, I love you very much. Go Mountaineers! 💙💛”

After graduating this spring from Severn School, Getz had planned to spend 2025-26 doing a PG year at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, but 5 days before she was supposed to report in Colorado Springs, she decided to accept an offer from West Virginia. A talented singer (she has sung the National Anthem at numerous swim meets on the East coast), she plans to study Music Business with a minor in marketing. Getz will join the Air Force ROTC at WVU next spring after her swim season has concluded.

Getz swims for Naval Academy Swim Club in Annapolis, where she trains under coach Rob Lias and holds club records. She specializes mainly in sprints. This summer, she won the 50 free at the Maryland Long Course State Championships, clocking a lifetime best of 27.13. She placed 10th in the 50 back, 11th in the 50 breast, and 15th in the 50 fly. She swam PBs in the 100 free (1:00.43), 50 back (31.91), and 50 fly (29.72) at Greensboro Futures.

Most of her best SCY times come from the Maryland Short Course Senior Championships in February. There, she placed 4th in the 50 free (23.73), 8th in the 100 free (52.85), 8th in the 50 back (27.55), and 17th in the 50 fly (26.63).

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.73
  • 100 free – 52.85
  • 10 back – 27.34
  • 50 fly – 26.63

Getz has joined the WVU class of 2029 with Aubrey Briseno, Baylee Sloan, Camryn Blair, Delia Ostafi, Giada Del Medico, Macey Larson, Madalyn Witt, Maecy Wells, Peyton Worman, Sezen Kalak, Stavroula Chalemou, and Tabi Main.
