WATER POLO: USA Men & Women Announce Upcoming Competition

Huntington Beach, CA – April 26 – The USA Water Polo Men’s and Women’s Senior National Teams are preparing for a host of matches in the coming months. Both the USA Men and Women will welcome Australia for matches in the month of May in California followed by the USA Women venturing to the East Coast to host Hungary in a three game series. Team captains Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC) and Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/NYAC) anchor two teams that have qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games and are gearing up for the competition starting this August in Brazil.

The action starts on May 20 at 7pm pt at Haldeman Pool in Pomona, CA when the USA Men take on Australia. Two days later a doubleheader is set for USC’s Uytengsu Aquatic Center in Los Angeles, CA with the men’s match starting at 1pm pt followed by the women’s match with both games airing live on NBC Sports Network. On May 24 the USA Women head north to Fresno State in Fresno, CA for a 6pm pt meeting with Australia and then return south to conclude competition with Australia on May 26 at Beckman High School in Irvine, CA at 7pm pt.

In late June the USA Women kick off a three game set with Hungary at Ransom Everglades School in Miami, FL on June 27 at 6pm et. The match will serve as a homecoming for USA goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/NYAC) who played her high school water polo at Ransom Everglades. From there the teams head to Greenwich, Connecticut for a 7pm et match on June 29 at the Greenwich YMCA. The series finishes on July 2 at Fordham University in Bronx, NY at 2pm et.
