Haley Anderson and Zane Grothe picked up victories in the women’s and men’s 800 freestyle to open the San Antonio Pro Swim on Thursday, with Anderson winning by three and a half seconds and Grothe edging out Kieran Smith in a tight race.
Anderson, 29, clocked 8:34.93, and was followed by the Sandpipers of Nevada duo of Erica Sullivan (8:38.46) and Bella Sims (8:41.24).
Grothe (7:59.05) and Smith (7:59.27) both had significant negative splits to crack eight minutes, while Will Gallant rounded out the top three in 8:04.80.
