Virginia Class 6A State Champion Bruno Haggard Announces Commitment to Pitt for 2026-27

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

York Swim Club’s Bruno Haggard has committed to further his academic and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh, beginning in the fall oaf 2026.

He announced his commitment in an email to SwimSwam:

I am pleased to finally announce my academic and athletic commitment to the University of Pittsburgh. I would like to thank my family, my favorite (and only) sister Esmé, my brother Hugo, as well as friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported me along the way. I would like to give a special thanks to Coach Michael, Coach Chase, and the rest of the Pitt coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity. H2P!

Haggard hails from McLean, Virginia, where he represented McLean High School. In February, at the Virginia Class 6 State Championships, Haggard secured his first individual state championship, winning the 200 free in a lifetime-best performance of 1:39.12. That swim was a seven-spot improvement over his 2025 performance, in which he finished 8th in 1:46.01. He also clocked the 2nd fastest 100 fly of the meet in 49.26, marking a new career best. He also led the prelims 200 free relay in a lifetime best of 21.04, and later anchored the relay in 20.41, leading his team to a runner-up finish.

He recently competed at the NCSA Spring Championships, where he finished 7th in the 200 fly in 1:50.13, though in prelims he swam a major best time of 1:46.44. He also notched a best time in the 50 fly in 22.65. A little more than a week earlier, Haggard lowered his best 500 free time under the 4:30 barrier for the first time in 4:28.46.

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Free: 45.72
  • 200 Free: 1:39.12
  • 500 Free: 4:28.46
  • 100 Fly: 49.26
  • 200 Fly: 1:46.44
  • 200 IM: 1:50.14
  • 100 Breast: 56.30
  • 100 Back: 50.86

The Pitt men finished 11th at the 2026 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships in February.

Based on Haggard’s best times, he would have finished tied for 30th in the 200 fly, 47th in the 500 free, and 68th in the 200 free.

Haggard still has a bit of ground to make up if he wants to reach that scoring range at ACCs. Still, if he can stay on the progression path that he is currently on, he should be able to reach that scoring range and provide points in some event where Pitt could use the extra scoring, especially in the 500 free, as the Panther men did not score a single point in that event in 2026.

Haggard also has a wide range of potential events, though it looks like the mid-distance free/fly will be where he specializes; he holds solid times in all four 100-yard events.

Haggard joins Matthew Karasek, Austin Sorg, Lincoln Hofmann, and Cinco Perez in Pitt’s 2026 recruiting class.
