With less than a month before his days in the 10 & Under age group come to a close, Fishers Area Swimming Tigers standout Gabriel Brown made the most of the time that he has left, breaking three National Age Group Records in three days.
In late June, Brown cracked his first-ever NAG record in the 200-yard freestyle at the MSS Summer Splash in Wisconsin in 1:56.12, ending Kaii Winkler‘s nine-year reign as record-holder in the event.
That time did not have nearly as long a lifespan as the previous record, as at the Express Last Chance Qualifier meet in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Brown would lower that time again, becoming the first 10 & Under swimmer ever to break the 1:56 barrier, clocking 1:55.72.

Just an hour before that record-breaking swim, Brown would notch a new record, one he didn’t already own. In his first event of the meet, the 200 IM, Brown would once again swim into a league of his own, becoming the first-ever 10-and-under swimmer to clock a time under 2:10 in the 200 IM, lowering Ayden Tan‘s previous mark from 2023 of 2:10.12 in 2:09.56.
That time marks a more than half-second drop from his best time of 2:10.18 from the CGAC Stars and Stripes less than a week earlier, which sat just six tenths off of Tan’s now former NAG record of 2:10.12.

Brown was not done with the records, as just two days later, back in Indiana, at the FAST Last Chance Meet, he would take on the 500 free, as he entered with the 3rd fastest time ever in the age group in 5:09.02 from March of this year. However, that ranking would not last long, as he managed to drop nearly three seconds, moving past Trevan Valena‘s 10 & Under NAG record of 5:06.32 from 2018, touching in 5:06.13.

I really love the swimming community. I find swimmers to be genuinely warm and friendly people. You would never believe it if you only read the comments on SwimSwam.
Good for this kid for being such a good swimmer. On some podcast the kid was talking about swimming 2 hours a day, 6 days a week and then doing dryland with weights 2-3 hours a week. I definitely worry that the sole focus (potentially from the father) is simply breaking records. I also have a 10 year old boy state qualifying swimmer who is certainly not in the pool that much but is also enjoying other sports like flag football, water polo, and lacrosse. Kids are specializing so much these days in sports when they should be trying all of the sports when they are young….or else they burn out when they get a bit older.
