Video Interview: Savannah King Previews Tonight’s 800 Free Final

Savannah King is going to attempt to go five for five in the women’s 800m freestyle tonight in order to win the Major Grand Slam Award. The Major Grand Slam Award is given to any athlete who wins a single event at five CIS Championships in a row.

The last athlete to win the award was at last year’s CIS Championships as Zack Chetrat took home his fifth consecutive win in the 200m butterfly.

This year, it’s King’s turn to shine. Already she’s earned herself a bronze in the 200m freestyle, a silver as part of the UBC 400 freestyle relay, a gold in the 200m freestyle, and a silver as a member of UBC’s 4×200 freestyle relay.

With the fastest heats of the distance events taking place tonight, King is looking to add one more gold and take home the Major Grand Slam Award.
