Vermont Hosts Siena in First Home Meet on Saturday

The women’s swimming & diving team hosts its first home event of the season on Saturday (Oct. 31) as the Siena Saints travel to Forbush Natatorium for a 2 p.m. meet. All the action will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.TV at the link below.

ABOUT VERMONT
The Catamounts enter their first home meet with a 1-2-0 record, last competing at UNH on Oct. 17. Senior diver Maggie Prestonwas named the America East Diver of the Week after the meet. For the second straight week, Preston won both diving events for the Catamounts as she claimed the 3-meter event with a score of 250.72 and took the 1-meter event with a total of 238.11. Shannon Cowley led the swimmers in New Hampshire, finishing with a time of 1:06.31 to win the 100-yard breaststroke.

SCOUTING SIENA
Siena enters the meet with a 3-1-0 overall record. The Saints were in action last Saturday and defeated Niagara 190-108, but fell to Binghamton by a score of 177-117. Siena was picked to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll. Last season, the Saints captured the bronze medal at the ECAC Championship for the second consecutive year. Head coach Paul Kueterman begins his sixth season at the helm.

LAST YEAR’S MEETING
Vermont set three Siena pool records on its way to a 169-119 victory over the Saints last season in Loudonville, New York. UVM won 12 of 16 events and set pool records in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 100 breaststroke. Shannon Cowley claimed the individual pool record for the Catamounts, swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.53.

WHO’S NEXT
Vermont returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 7 when it hosts America East rival Maine at 12 p.m. at Forbush Natatorium. The meet will be streamed live for free at AmericaEast.TV. The Black Bears beat Rhode Island by a score of 180-118 in their season opener on Saturday in Orono, Maine.
