USC Women Hold #1 Spot In National Varsity Week 2 CWPA Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Southern California continues at No. 1 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Week 2/February 17 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 and CWPA Top Five Polls.  The Division III Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top 5 Polls are deferred until a later date pending confirmation of which teams will compete during the COVID-19 impacted 2021 season.

The University of Michigan also retains its preseason and Week 1 billing as the Wolverines are a unanimous top selection in the CWPA Top 5 Poll.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 2/FEBRUARY 17)

The University of Southern California retains the No. 1 position in the Week 2/February 17 Women’s Varsity Top 25 Poll.

USC (99 points), which held a 98-96 lead over Stanford (96 points) in the preseason balloting and a 98-97 margin versus the Cardinal in the Week One balloting, expands the gap to a season-high three points.

The University of California-Los Angeles (93 points) and the University of California-Irvine (86 points) continue at No. 3 and 4, respectively, as the lead quartet remains consistent for another seven days.

For the second time in as many weeks, the inaugural change comes at No. 5 as Arizona State University (84 points) slips past the University of Hawaii.  Hawaii (78 points) and the University of Michigan (78 points) fall and rise into a tie at No. 6, while the University of California (77 points) slides to No. 8.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (68 points), the University of California-San Diego (63 points), Fresno State University (58 points), Loyola Marymount University (53 points) and Indiana University (51 points) hang on at No. 9-to-13.

Long Beach State University (46 points) and the University of California-Davis (46 points) move into a tie at No. 14 with San Jose State University (43 points) coming in at No. 16.

San Diego State University (35 points), University of the Pacific (34 points) and Princeton University (25 points) remain at No. 17-to-19.

Bucknell University (23 points), Marist College (22 points), California Baptist University (16 points) and Brown University (9 points) rate at No. 20-to-24 with Azusa Pacific University (7 points) and Iona College (7 points) tying at No. 25.

2021 WOMEN’S VARSITY COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION TOP 5 (WEEK 2/FEBRUARY 17)

Four-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains the top team in the league as the Wolverines lead the 2021 CWPA Top Five Week 2/February 17 Poll as a unanimous No. 1 selection.

The 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 league champion, Michigan (100 points) holds a six-point lead over 2000, 2012, 2013, 2015 champion/No. 2 pick Princeton University (94 points).

Bucknell University (91 points), Brown University (84 points) and Saint Francis University (81 points) also retain their preseason and Week 1 rankings as the Bison, Bears and Red Flash stay at No. 3-to-5, respectively.
