Two-Time WA State Champ Mackenna Briggs Gives Verbal Commitment to USD

Mackenna Briggs, a senior at Liberty High School in Renton, Washington, and member of Issaquah Swim Team has made a verbal commitment to the University of San Diego for the 2015-16 season.

Briggs is a two-time Washington state champion, having won the 100 back as a freshman and the 100 butterfly as a junior at the WIAA 3A Girls State Swim & Dive Championships.

Her top times are:

100y fly: 55.02
200y fly: 2:02.89
200y IM: 2:04.71
400y IM: 4:21.02
50y free: 23.54
100y free: 51.34
100y back: 57.51

Briggs will be a nice addition to the Toreros’ squad. Her 100 and 200 fly times are easily A-final qualifiers at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference championships; these are both events in which USD only had one scorer. Briggs would have made the B-final in the 200 IM, another event where the Toreros could have used another scorer. Briggs should also be a great addition to San Diego’s relays.

The Toreros look to be in a building mode, having brought in an enormous freshman class last year. Many of the school records have fallen within the last two seasons. Briggs could break at least USD’s 100 and 200 fly records her freshman year. She should be a big impact player for the Toreros.
