Torri Huske, Lucy Bell Discuss 2nd Place Team Finish, Future in Swimming

2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Torri Huske and Lucy Bell were two of the four members of Stanford’s 400 free relay that were fighting for their team’s standing and came out ahead of Texas (in the relay) to finish 2nd overall behind Virginia. They both each won individual titles in their last NCAA swimming session, with Huske winning the 100 free and Bell winning the 200 IM. With both of their NCAA careers now over, Huske is sure that she will continue until 2028, while Bell is still up in the air on what comes next for her.

Torri wants to stay at Stanford this year, but will he be there until 2028? Where could she go if he decides to leave?

Why would she leave bruh

There’s no pro group at Stanford. Top athletes flock together because it’s hard to train in a vacuum. Plus, SF’s hideously expensive.

yeah but there’s a new regime in place

Yeah but she’s said she wants to get her master’s so it’d make sense to stay

Her interview made it seem like her training at Stanford is certain only through the summer. I’m sure it is hard for her to assess the new coaching staff relating to her long course performance given Lindauer was hired just before last summer and the World Championships were more about sickness than how well she was prepared. If she does well this summer, maybe she stays at Stanford.

I don’t know how many pro groups take non alumni. Does Cal take outsiders? We know that Virginia has taken some over the years and UVA is not far from where she is from. I think UVA is likely a better fit for a sprinter than Texas.

Cal has started selectively taking outsiders (Daniel Wiffen, Brooks Curry, Hunter Armstrong previously) but the pro group is all male currently, which I’m guessing is less appealing.

With that said, I’m sure Durden would take Tori in a heartbeat and she would have Jack Alexy, Destin Lasco, Brooks Curry, Dare Rose, and Gabe Jett to train with across sprint free / butterfly.

That should be a felony charge on Bell for what she did to those girls on that 2IM breast and free legs.

USA Swimming is looking for a backup to Kate Douglass in the W 100 BR. Interested?

I think we’re fine for now and through LA, but once she’s done we really need a breastroker to come through

So happy that Torri is gonna keep swimming through 2028.
I feel like after 2028, a lot of the swimmers swimming now will retire and teams will look far different than they are now

Yeah it feels like all the heavy hitters, especially on the women’s side are retiring after La

I feel like Ledecky will still be swimming in 2032. Barring some new talent coming along I feel like she could make the American team in at least the mile probably until 2036 if she wanted to.

Theoretically she could, but I’ve heard in different places that she’s done after LA. I guess we’ll see how things go for her til 2028

Why wouldn’t they? Torri and Kate for 2 are intelligent women who will do well in whatever they pursue.

I just hope Gretchen doesn’t retire after LA. Kate probably will and Alex, so wonder who she will have to train with then. Wonder what Claire is thinking of too?..

Yeah I don’t see Kate and Alex continuing beyond LA. Gretchen is still TBD but I can see her potentially swimming til 2032

She can probably just swim the 50s after LA if she wants

I think she’ll dial in on the 50/100 fly. Her fly is so much stronger than her free

Gretchen coulkd easily go til 2036 if she wanted – 50 /100 fly and 50 free are for the older swimmers anyway these days

Gold Coast, Australia, 2026. Who will seriously want to retire. Kate will be 30 and Torri will be only 29!
