Ultimately, the Orange Team, buoyed by performances from Claire Curzan, Katie Grimes, and Thomas Heilman came out on top, scoring 256 points to the Blue Team’s 212.
Heilman set a new meet record in all three of his individual events, leading the Orange men’s team.
All the race videos can be found on UVA’s Youtube Channel, along with a few pro races that are not in the results.
Relay Recap
The individual events were all separated by gender but the relays were mixed both between team and gender.
The first relay of the meet was the 200 medley relay, which wasn’t scored, and was separated by class.
Mixed 200 Medley Relay:
- 1st years, 1:30.42– Curtis (23.75), Williamson (24.22), Heilman (20.09), Mintenko (22.36)
- 3rd years, 1:31.79– Thompson (22.76), Gerloff (24.84), Curzan (22.20), Nwakalor (21.99)
- 4th years, 1:34.85– Aikins (22.97), Heilman (26.58), Novelline (23.98), Greenwaldt (21.32)
- 2nd years, 1:36.43
The 1st years won with the team of Sara Curtis (23.75), Maximus Williamson (24.22), Thomas Heilman (20.09), and Madi Mintenko (22.36) coming together to swim 1:30.42, winning by more than a second.
The 3rd years finished 2nd, highlighted by Claire Curzan splitting 22.20 on the fly leg.
The 4th years finished 3rd and the 2nd years finished 4th. The 2nd years order seems to be incorrect as printed with Dillon Wright listed as the butterflyer and Charlotte Wilson as the backstroker. When watching the video, it appears that the two swapped positions. This would make sense as the backstroker on the relay swam 23.17, more than a second faster than Wilson’s PB and the butterflyer split 25.00.
Bryn Greenwaldt built on her monster beginning of the season and anchored the 4th year relay in 21.32, which was the fastest freestyle split int he field.
Mixed 200 Freestyle Relay
- Blue Team ‘A’, 1:23.13– Williamson (19.91), Nicholas (19.99), Moesch (21.48), Greenwaldt (21.75)
- Orange Team ‘A’, 1:23.30– Heilman (19.80), Amlicke (20.35), Curzan (21.65), Curtis (21.50)
- Orange Team ‘B’, 1:25.28– Powers (20.42), Bellotti (20.31), Ficken (22.57), Nwakalor (21.98)
- Blue Team ‘B’, 1:26.42– Aikins, Thompson, Canny, Novelline (no splits)
While the Orange Team won the meet, the Blue Team took the final relay with Maximus Williamson leading them off in 19.91. Nicholas Spencer swam 2nd, splitting 19.99, Anna Moesch was 3rd in 21.48, and Bryn Greenwaldt anchored the team in 21.75,
Thomas Heilman led off the Orange ‘A’ team in 19.80 before handing off to Blake Amlicke in 20.35. Claire Curzan swam 21.65 in 3rd and Sara Curtis was the anchor, splitting 21.50.

Is suiting up for Intrasquads the norm nowadays?
Well most high end programs suit up in practice fairly often to simulate racing suited so really this is just a glorified practice for them.
Called practicing the way you are going to race.
Honestly, feeling kinda whelmed from the showing from the navy meet and the intrasquad. Then again, its impossible to actually measure performance when they swim odd distances instead of their actual events.
Crazy that asu has faster freshman
ASU swam a meet with 2500 people uva swam an inter squad not the same
Both 25 yards.
underdogs
Katie Grimes’ 300 and 600 at this meet are slower than her 300 and 600 splits from the 1000 she swam the month before she arrived at UVA. 💔
It’s a freaking inter squad meet. Calm down.
Shocking that swimmers are faster at taper meets than they are at intrasquads —in your case, Speedo Winter Juniors and a September intrasquad meet in which the 600 time was a meet record (better than Paige Madden’s best time, and Madden was an NCAA champion in the 200, 500, and 1,650).
The horror that Gretchen Walsh was almost a full second (!!) slower in her 50 fly (22.68) at last year’s intradquad than she was at NCAAs the previous March on her first 50 of her 100 fly race (21.75).
Such a non-serious post from a non-serious poster.
I have always wanted to do a triple distance meet.
The times are unfamiliar to me, like swimming 1:08 for a 150 free or a 600 yard event.
great showing – but 2 meets in a row of non traditional events … I’m ready to see what they can actually do in a real meet lol.
at Florida on Friday!
Heilman needed a suit to lose to what Hudson Williams went unsuited by over a second. Hudskinny forever!!!!!!!
They are teammates now. No need to pit them against each other
I thought the savage 7 were ready to throw down. Crazy some unsuited times at nc states intrasquad are faster 😬
Does anyone know where to find the results of the NC state intrasquad?
