The Wichita Swim Club Has a New Head Coach

Alison Pick, who has been serving as Wichita Swim Club’s interim Head Coach since August 2015, has been named as the club’s official Head Coach.

Pick, a native of Sioux City, IA, came from the Houston Cougars Aquatic Sports club in June 2014 and has an extensive background in coaching. She has prior experience with SwimMAC Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.; Lake Norman Charter School in Huntersville, N.C.; Davidson College in Davidson, N.C.; and South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.

Pick was a four-year collegiate swimmer and college team captain at Northern Illinois University. She is an ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) Level 3 coach and is certified in AXIS dryland training.

Since Pick stepped into the interim head coach role, she has had impressive results at WSC, with seven Zone team members, five All-Star team members and multiple Missouri Valley Swimming Championship High Point winners. Swimmers on Pick’s squads have broken three decade-old team records (six total team records) and consistently record best times. She has had eight first-time sectional qualifiers and four first-time Junior Nationals qualifiers. Pick was named Missouri Valley Swimming Age Group Coach of the year in September 2015. “Wichita Swim Club is lucky to have Coach Pick’s enthusiasm, energy and leadership moving into an Olympic year. We are thrilled to have her on board,” said WSC Board President Tom Wierman.

The Wichita Swim Club, 8323 E. Douglas, was founded in 1954 by Bob Timmons. Soon after its creation, WSC became known across the Midwest as a high-quality program for swimmers of all levels, and it remains one of only a few parent-owned, coach-run swim clubs in the nation with its own 50 meter pool facility. The club has produced 4 Olympians over sixty-six years of its storied history. The club moved into the Garvey Aquatic Center, on the campus of Wichita Independent School, in 1991.
