The FINA Technical Committee members will conduct venue inspections in the build-up to this summer’s mega aquatics event.

Representatives of FINA’s technical committees for swimming, open water swimming and synchronised swimming will be in Kazan for a few days to assess the readiness of venues for the upcoming 16th FINA World Championships. A number of meetings will also be held to address the matters relating to the preparation of the sporting event: venues’ competition schedules and layouts, victory ceremonies, broadcasting, timekeeping, provision of working conditions for judges, sports equipment, etc.

The FINA delegates led by President Dr. Julio C. Maglione will also have a meeting with Acting President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The FINA President will sign partnership agreements and attend the inauguration of a swimming pool in the Tetyushsky Municipal District. Among those taking part in the inspection visit also are President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation and four-time Olympic champion Vladimir Salnikov, Vice-President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Grigory Stetsyuk, 1st Vice-President of the Russian Synchronised Swimming Federation and three-time Olympic champion Olga Brusnikina and other officials.

I hope they will check to make sure there is no current in the pool that might affect swimming times/placements, as was the case in Barcelona!
