In conjunction with its recent announcement of a new major sponsor in Hancock Prospecting, Swimming Australia has revealed it is bringing back its previous moniker of the “Dolphins”, a name once associated with the team, but was dropped in 2009.  The associated video is a motivating reintroduction of the name and symbolizes a new path for the team, one free of any scandal or disappointment; a path filled with team pride and public respect for the Australian team on its road to Rio.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that reintroducing the “Dolphins” team name is part of Swimming Australia’s efforts to rebuild its brand since the Stillnox scandal and overall discouraging team performance at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Swimming Australia CEO Mark Anderson says that, the “cultural change is an ongoing process.  We’re a long way from where we need to be in all aspects in and out of the pool, but we are bench marking what is the best around the world in every area. ”

The move highlights the team’s overall high expectations for 2016 Rio, where the hope is a resurgence in the Australian public’s respect for their national swim team.  “The thing about the Australian Swim Team is everyone wants us to succeed and we’re sure the Australian public are on board.”, says Anderson.
