The NCAA Women’s Water Polo national championship matchup is set, with defending champion #1 USC meeting 2018 runnerup #2 Stanford on Sunday. Both teams had to endure an overtime thriller on Saturday to earn their spot in the title match.
The top four seeds, all from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, advanced to Saturday’s NCAA Tournament semifinals with wins on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif. #1 USC will now meet #4 Cal and #2 Stanford will face #3 UCLA with a spot in the championships match on the line.
Although there were just 23 games played on Week 13, that did not stop the goal onslaught. Forty-seven players got in on the act as 51 efforts of three of more goals were recorded.
VMI put in 46 goals in two Saturday wins at the Macalester Invitational, including a school record eight by Sarah Dolitsky against host Macalester. Dolitsky went on to score 24 goals on the week, leading the Week 5 offensive standout performances.
