Sydney Leahr Taking Newfound Training Passion to Towson University

Sprinter Sydney Leahr from the Kingston YMCA Hurricanes has committed to the Towson Tigers, joining a huge recruiting class that is now at least 12 strong for the women’s program alone.

Leahr is a speed swimmer, with bests of 25.23 in the 50 free, 59.33 in the 100 back as Towson continues to stockpile sprinters to complement their famed distance group.

In yards, her best times are:

  • 50 free – 25.23
  • 100 free – 55.97
  • 100 back – 59.33

She stands 5’11” tall, giving her big potential for the Tigers. Leahr recently moved to New York from Pittsfield, Illinois and says that since moving she has “gained a new passion for the type of training it will take” to achieve her goals.

As a junior, that new training already resulted in a 1.7 second improvement in the 50 free and a full second improvement in the 100 backstroke. If her passion for training hard continues to grow,  she’ll be a conference scorer in the Colonial Athletic Association as a freshman for Towson, at least.
