It was more dominance for St. Thomas Academy at the Minnesota State High School League Boys A Swimming and Diving Championships.

St. Thomas repeated as champion and won its 17th title overall, finishing 137 points ahead of runner-up Breck.

There was a state record broken, with Orono junior Gideon Fish winning the 1-meter diving event with 558.25 points, breaking the old record of 539.69 set by Lucas Gerten of Rosemont.

Leading the way for St. Thomas was senior Luke Mechtel, who finished his career with nine gold medals after repeating as champion in two individual events and being a part of two winning relay teams.

Mechtel won the 50 free in a personal best time of 20.80 and then claimed the 100 breast in a time of 54.98.

In the 200 medley relay, Mechtel split 24.37 on the breast leg to help St. Thomas win in a time of 1:31.95. Other team members were Parker Miller on back (24.24), Paidon McGuire on fly (22.74) and Kayden Greeley on free (20.60).

Mechtel then led off in 20.88 to help St. Thomas win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:25.06. Other team members were Greeley (21.24), Leo Ritzenthaler (21.52) and Pascal Zeruhn (21.42).

St. Thomas made it a clean sweep of the relays by claiming the 400 free relay event in a time of 3:09.23 behind the team of Zeruhn (48.20), Ritzenthaler (47.35), Samuel Quinn (47.73), and McGuire (45.95).

St. Thomas also got victories from Miller in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 1:53.10 and Zeruhn in the 500 free with a personal best time of 4:40.56.

Other individual winners were:

  • Northfield senior Will Redetzke, a Wisconsin-Green Bay commit, claimed the 200 free in 1:42.05 after taking 3rd last year.
  • Elliot Bartell, a senior at Makato East, won his third straight title in the 100 fly with a time of 49.35.
  • Northfield junior Odin Bergs won the 100 free in a personal best time of 46.84 after finishing 8th last year.
  • Fergus Falls senior Reece Hansen, a Wisconsin-LaCross commit, won the 100 back in a personal best 52.29.
