ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women’s swim and dive team put together a commanding all-around performance for their season’s first victory, defeating Canisius, 233-67, Friday night at the Reilly Center Pool.
Junior Anna Bojana Forjan set the tone early for the Bonnies, helping lead the winning 200-medley relay (1:44.58) and later capturing individual victories in the 200-freestyle (1:53.77) and 200-backstroke (2:03.28). She capped her day by anchoring the winning 200-freestyle relay (1:36.03), teaming with Sophie Baker, Kate Hill, and Maris Sadowski.
Freshman Kate Hill continued her breakout campaign, taking first in both the 50-free (24.17) and 100-free (52.92) while contributing to both relay wins. Sophie Baker also had a standout meet, claiming first in the 100-backstroke (56.15) and 100-butterfly (58.09) in addition to swimming key legs on the victorious relays.
In the distance events, Phoebe McClaren paced the field in the 1000-free (10:35.58) with teammates Samantha Schnappauf (10:38.81) and Cameron Darnell (10:44.32) sweeping the top three spots. Alessandra Ren (5:12.58), Katie Beyer (5:16.42), and Nele Vetter (5:20.01) repeated the sweep later in the 500-free.
The Bonnies’ depth showed throughout the meet, including a podium sweep in the 200-fly, led by Vetter (2:09.34), Grace Purtell (2:11.65), and Caroline Murray (2:12.92). Mia Hill took top honors in the 200-individual medley (2:11.36), followed closely by Grace and Zoe Purtell in second and third, respectively.
Junior Sarah Gonzalez led the way in the breaststroke, winning both the 100 (1:08.14) and 200 (2:28.89). Teammates Paris Christie and Katie Lyons added top-five finishes in both events to secure more Bona points.
On the boards, the Bonnies swept both diving events behind Dhavgely Mendoza, who took first on the 1-meter (268.73) and 3-meter (268.73). Freshmen Lia Doskoris (239.33/263.78) and Paige Gandolfini (204.23/219.90) finished second and third in both events to complete the diving sweep.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men’s swimming and diving team beat Canisius in dominating fashion at home on Friday evening, winning 208-86. The Bonnies were led by standout performances from senior Ben O’Neill as well as freshmen Matheus Rinaldi and Emanuele Zingaro.
Rinaldi collected an early victory in the 200-free (1:43.50) and backed it up later with a win in the 500-free (4:44.03). He was trailed in the 200-free by Kevyn Collazo Torres (1:44.19), who secured an additional second-place finish in the 100-fly (51.30).
Zingaro also paced the field in two events, winning the 50-free (20.88) as well as the 100-free (45.84).
O’Neill found the two top podium spots in diving competition, scoring 318 points on the 1-meter board and 321 points on the 3-meter board. Freshman Brady Huetll followed in second place in both events, scoring 263.40 points on the 1-meter board and 289.05 points on the 3-meter board.
Sophomore Mark Mizsei, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, continued his hot streak, taking the win in the 200-fly (1:49.38) and second-place in the 500-free (4:46.82).
Senior Luigi Termine won the 100-back (51.00) and finished second in the 200-back (1:55.88). He was followed by sophomore Grant Chapa in the 100-back (51.68), who also collected a victory in the 200-IM (1:56.37).
Senior Will Foggin pushed hard for a distance win, finishing in under 10 minutes in the 1000-free (9:58.69). He was also able to find the podium in the 500-free (4:53.41), taking third place.
Joseph Pyon picked up a late victory in the 100-fly (49.65), preceding Collazo Torres. The junior also placed third earlier in the 200-fly (1:52.10).
Rookie Blaise Sadowski was the top Bonaventure finisher in the 100-breast, clocking in at 58.01.
Multiple other Bonnies turned in solid individual performances, including junior Johnny Edwards and freshman David Mutter. Edwards placed second in the 1000-free (10:02.45) and Mutter secured second in the 200-fly (1:52.00).
Junior Carlos Hidalgo sped to a podium finish in sprints, taking second place in the 50-free (21.34).
The Bonnies swept in relay action, collecting two wins and taking four of the six available podium positions. Chapa, Sadowski, Pyon, and Zingaro combined for first place in the 200-medley relay (1:31.47). They were followed by Termine, Collazo Torres, Marcos Bravo and Paul Wissel in second place (1:34.35).
In the 200-free relay, Zingaro, Pyon, Wissel and Hidalgo worked together for a first-place time of 1:23.89. Sadowski, Collazo Torres, Mutter and Cole Tangeman followed shortly in third (1:26.76).

St. Bonaventure posted a sweep of the dual meet against Little Three rival Canisius In intercollegiate swimming and diving action Friday at the Reilly Center Pool in Olean, N.Y.
The Bonnies men recorded a 208-86 victory over the Golden Griffin men while the St. Bonaventure women posted a 233-67 triumph versus the Canisius women.
In the men’s meet, senior Sam Vidal took first in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:08.49, nearly two seconds ahead of junior Atticus Hlubin (2:10.37). Junior Elliot Somers also turned in a first-place performance, claiming the 200 backstroke in 1:53.93. Sophomores Rhys Insley (58.69) and Giovanni Poggio (58.70) gave the Griffs a 2-3 finish in the 100 breast while Poggio and recorded a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time 1:56.82. Freshman Hugh Hawkins (47.89) and sophomore Cameron Upchurch (48.21) placed second and third in the 100 freestyle.
For the Canisius women, junior Cassandra Ercoli placed second in the 100 breaststroke by 11 hundredths of a second with a time of 1:08.25. junior Evie Leighton notched a second-place result in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.65 while junior Sarajo Gardner (2:12.02), freshman Zoe Schwartz (2:14.77) and senior Kelly Crous (2:16.03) claimed spots 2-4 in the 200 backstroke. Sophomore Daphne Mead (2:29.88) and senior Tori Spacciapolli (2:30.83) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke.

Canisius wraps up the fall portion of its schedule with an appearance in the UB Invite. The two-day is slated for Nov. 21-22 at the Alumni Arena Natatorium & Dorsi Raynolds Pool in Buffalo.
