Sprinter Amber van Meines (2022) Sends Verbal Pledge to Harvard

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Moraga, California native Amber van Meines has announced her verbal commitment to the application process* at Harvard University for the 2022-23 school year. She wrote on social media:

“I’m so excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Harvard University! Thank you so much to Coach Steph and Coach Amanda for making this experience incredibly fulfilling and to my family and friends who have been there for me every step of the way. I can’t wait to be part of this group of hardworking and empowered women. GO CRIMSON!!! ❤️”

Van Meines swims for Campolindo High School, where she is a junior, and Orinda Aquatics. She specializes in sprint freestyle and backstroke and is a Futures qualifier in both the 50 free and 100 free. Van Meines competed at 2019 CIF North Coast Section Championships her freshman year and came in 8th in the 50 free (24.08) and 3rd in the 100 Free (51.68). She achieved her lifetime best times in both events during prelims. She then went on to swim at the California CIF State Championships. She did not have a sophomore season in 2020, or a junior season this spring, due to COVID-19.

In club swimming, van Meines kicked off 2021 with a brand new PB in the 100 back at an Orinda Aquatics Time Trials meet in March. She also raced the 50 and 100 free, coming with .5 and .7 of her best times in those events.

Van Meines will join Anya Mostek, Elizabeth Brock, and Sydney Lu in Cambridge, Mass. in the fall of 2022.

Top times:

  • 50 free – 23.60
  • 100 free – 51.25
  • 100 back – 56.56

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
