SMU’s Grobler, Houston’s Deininger Claim American Weekly Swim & Dive Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, October 10.

Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week
Gabi Grobler * Sr. * SMU
Grobler turned in a strong performance for SMU in the season-opening SMU Classic on Oct. 8-9, which featured four top-25 programs in the field. Grobler was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.12, not only a PR in the event but also an NCAA B-cut. Grobler also posted the top conference times of the season in the 100 backstroke (54.13), 200 backstroke (1:58.67) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.10).

Women’s Diving Athlete of the Week
Katie Deininger * Sr. * Houston
Deininger posted a pair of NCAA Zone scores to open the season in a dual meet with Texas A&M on Oct. 7. Deininger scored 288.45 points off the 1-meter board to crack the podium in third place and lead Houston in the event. Deininger added a score of 288.90 points in 3-meter diving to finish third overall.
