SLU Earns Dominant Sweep Over Maryville On Senior Day

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis swimming and diving closed the regular season and celebrated Senior Day with two decisive victories over Maryville Saturday afternoon at Simon Recreation Center.

The Billiken men posted a 174-25 win, while the Billiken women prevailed 176-44.

Wyatt Johnson led the men’s team with two individual wins and a relay victory. Johnson touched first in the 100 free (48.45) and 200 free (1:47.15) and joined Joe GreseJosh Millner Balagtas and Brandt Wilhelmi on the winning 200 free relay team (1:29.78).

Brae Sanchez also won two individual events, capturing the 100 fly (52.60) and 100 breast (57.65). Daniel Jekov won the 100 back (53.93) and was a member of the victorious 200 medley relay squad (1:22.31) that also included Daniel VerdicoPreston Waldusky and Logan Townsend.

Also winning for the SLU men were Jack Locke in the 1000 free (9:53.46), Colton Mosley in the 50 free (21.96), Ben Militti in the 200 IM (1:59.51) and Danny Hinkle in the 500 free (4:56.06).

Lauren Payton was a double winner for the Saint Louis women, touching first in the 200 free (1:58.51) and 100 fly (59.17). Emily Leonard (5:06.45, 500 free) and Elena Escalante (1:09.14, 100 breast) won individual events and joined Nancy Hulslander and Amelia Carlson on the first-place 200 free relay quartet (1:39.99).

Also topping the field in their events were Kenna Cashman in the 1000 free (11:07.57), Pola Luckiewicz in the 50 free (24.65), Carly McKeon in the 200 IM (2:12.09), Lettie Williams in the 100 free (56.01) and Sophie Kishish in the 100 back (59.80).

The Billikens compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships Feb. 15-18 in Geneva, Ohio.

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University swimming wrapped up the regular season with losses at Saint Louis University on Saturday afternoon. The women dropped their meet 176-44 to the Billikens and the men lost 174-25.

The women got on the board early with 11 points after the 200-yard Medley Relay team took first place. Karen BistrainElla FriesSarah Rosson, and Courtney Harris combined for a time of 31.56 for the Saints’ only win on the day.

Other notable finishes for the women include Hannah Doss’ second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.73), Danielle Callahan’s bronze in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:24.01), Fries’ third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Rosson’s third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.23).

For the men, Collin Fitzgerald picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.93 while Wyatt Martin took ninth in the 50-yard breaststroke at 22.75.

Next up for Maryville is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Evansville, Ind. The event will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 8, and will wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 11.
