Shannan McClain added to USA Swimming’s banned list after drug bust

Shannan McClain of Arkansas has been added to the USA Swimming banned list after an arrest last spring for drug-related offenses.

McClain and her husband were arrested last April when police raided their house and found items “indicative of a methamphetamine lab,” according to ArkansasMatters.com. The site reports that the McClains admitted to cooking meth in their home for several months.

Shannon McClain was suspended by USA Swimming, effective July 29, 2014. She doesn’t appear to be a coach, and USA Swimming says she was registered as a non-athlete in the category “other.”

McClain was suspended under two sections of USA Swimming’s code of conduct: section 304.3.6, which speaks specifically to drug-related offenses, and section 304.3.19, which mentions intentional acts that are detrimental to the reputation of USA Swimming.
