Sean Lyman Commits to Coast Guard Academy with Several NEWMAC “A” Final Times

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sean Lyman from Pennsburg, Pennsylvania will swim for the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut beginning in the fall of 2021.

“Ecstatic to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Coast Guard Academy. I would like to thank god, my family, coaches, teachers, and friends for always pushing me to my fullest potential and for always giving me their uppermost support for me to get to where I am today. Always dreamt of serving as a little boy and am honored to be given an opportunity to serve my country as I train to become a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard while earning my bachelors in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. Water Safety has always been a big part of me since my near-drowning and am blessed to continue my drive of protecting others. Thrilled to swim under Coach John Westkott’s program and to develop as a swimmer with an amazing team. I know the path ahead won’t be easy, but I’m super excited to take on the challenges ahead and to start the next chapter. Go bears & Semper Paratus!”

Lyman swims year-round with the Upper Perkiomen Valley YMCA Gators. He competed in high school for Upper Perkiomen High School and made the 2020 PIAA AAA State Championships in the 200 IM and 500 free. As a senior, he placed 4th in the 500 (4:38.83) and 7th in the 200 IM (1:54.88) at the District Championships, closing out his prep career with a PB in the IM.

Lyman had a stellar spring, going best times in the 50/100/200 free at YSCAP League Championships in early March; in the 100 back, 200 breast, and 200 fly at the YMCA Regional Senior Championships in late March; and in the 500/1650 free, 200 back, and 400 IM at YMCA Swimming Festival in April.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 22.65
  • 100 free – 49.17
  • 200 free – 1:45.21
  • 500 free – 4:36.45
  • 1650 free – 15:52.83
  • 200 IM – 1:54.88
  • 400 IM – 4:00.09
  • 100 back – 52.23
  • 200 back – 1:50.05
  • 200 breast – 2:09.66
  • 200 fly – 1:54.63

Lyman’s best 1650 time would have placed 2nd at 2020 NEWMAC Championships. He would have been an A finalist in the 500 free, 200 back, and 200/400 IM and a B finalist in the 200 free, 100 back, 200 breast, and 200 fly.
