One state title streak continued and another ended at the Louisiana Division II State Championships.
The Ruston boys team ended the seven-year reign of Holy Cross as state champion, while the St. Scholastica girls continued their dynasty by winning their 15th straight state title.
Girls’ Recap
St. Scholastica was led by senior Emma Mae Smith, who first won the 200 free in a time of 1:57.52. Later, she won the 100 free in a time of 53.36.
Smith was also a part of winning teams in the 200 free and 400 free relays.
In the 200 free relay, the squad of Amelia Smith (25.81), Caroline Blessey (26.12), Francesca Foret (27.94) and E. Smith (25.05) won in a time of 1:44.92.
In the 400 free relay, the same foursome but a different order of A. Smith (56.07), Foret (1:01.80), Blassey (57.88) and E. Smith (54.21) won with a time of 3:49.96.
The 200 medley relay was won by Franklin’s team of Zoe McEvoy (27.57), Zoe Finger (32.14), Grace Nguyen (28.55) and Magnolia Walsh (26.17) in 1:54.43.
A junior, McEvoy was the other individual to win two events. She captured the 200 IM in a time of 2:12.78 and then the 100 back in 59.09, both of which were personal best times.
Other individual winners were:
- St. Thomas More junior Cayden Gill won the 50 free in 24.66.
- Lila Usner, a freshman from Haynes Academy,, captured the 100 fly in 59.92.
- Ruston junior Bre Sean topped the field in the 500 free, coming in with a personal best time of 5:28.21.
- Audrey Li, a junior from Haynes Academy, won the 100 breast in a personal best time of 1:09.29.

Boys’ Recap
Ruston dethroned Holy Cross by 28 points thanks largely to sophomore J.J. Hoover, who first won the 100 fly in a time of 49.70.
Hoover then won the 100 breast in a personal best time of 57.82.
In the 400 free relay, Hoover swam an anchor split of 47.17 to help Ruston win in a time of 3:21.05. Other team members were G Amiano (50.77), Samuel Jackson (49.95) and Matthew Roach (53.16).
Holy Cross won the 200 medley in a time of 1:39.33 behind the team of Drew Launey (24.80), Donald Frisard (28.43), Kaiden Larrimer (25.52), and Daniel Long (20.58), which finished 14 one-hundreths of a second ahead of Archbishop Rummel.
Archbishop Rummel did win the 200 free relay behind the team of Cole Stokey (22.32), Nathan Crochet (21.54), Colin Dicharry (23.33) and Marcello Luz (22.40) in a time of 1:29.59.
The other multiple event winners individually were Long and Pineville senior Curtis Malone.
A senior, Long won the sprint freestyle events, swimming personal best times to win both the 50 free (21.03) and 100 free (46.48).
Malone won the 200 IM in 1:51.29 and then the 100 back in 49.20.
Other individual winners were:
- Thibodaux junior Dominick Paternostro won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:44.17.
- Teurlings Catholic senior Ethan Phipps captured the 500 free in a personal best time of 4:43.44.
