Russians Win Mixed Duet Free, Close Synchro Worlds With Seven Golds

2017 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS – SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

The final day of synchronized swimming (which was renamed ‘artistic swimming’ today) saw the Russian pair of Aleksandr Maltsev and Mikhaela Kalancha claim gold in the Mixed Duet Free final, giving the Russians their 7th gold of the competition.

The two compiled a score of 92.6000, edging out the Italian pair of Giorgio Minisini and Mariangela Perrupato (91.1000). Americans Bill May and Kanako Spendlove (88.7667) took 3rd to make the podium identical to the one in the Mixed Duet Technical, just with the Russians and Italians flip-flopped.

With no Russian team entered, China won the Team Free Combination gold medal with a score of 96.1000, followed by the Ukraine and Japan.

Russia finishes with seven golds and eight medals, while China sits 2nd on the medal table with five total.
