RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women’s swimming and diving team edged James Madison, 151-148, on Friday at the Robins Center Natatorium on Senior Day. The Spiders won nine events to earn the team’s first dual meet victory of the season.
Sally Harrington paced Richmond in diving, placing third on the 1-meter board with a personal-best score of 264.08. On the 3-meter board, Rachel Vandersea recorded the top finish for the Spiders, placing third with a personal-best score of 248.10.
Richmond opened the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, as the A relay team touched first in 1:44.22.
In the 1,000 free, junior Kaitlyn Bauer led the Spiders with a second-place finish, clocking a time of 10:27.58. She also posted another strong finish in the 500 free, placing second with a time of 5:07.00.
Sophomore Lena Amare won the 100 back, touching first in 56.95. Caroline Weldon secured a win for Richmond in the 200 back, finishing first in 2:02.80.
Presley Baber earned a victory in the 100 breast, posting a winning time of 1:04.97. In the 200 breast, Gabbie Primiano led the Spiders, winning the event in 2:20.43.
Freshman Kaitlyn Martin was Richmond’s top finisher in the 200 fly, placing second in 2:08.59. Freshman Mia Gregory captured the victory in the 100 fly, touching first in 58.13.
Julia Krichev led the Spiders in the 50 free, finishing third with a time of 23.91. Amare added a second-place finish in the 100 free, touching in 51.79. In the 200 free, Erin Budde captured the victory, winning the event in 1:53.79.
Molly Blanchard earned the win in the 200 IM, finishing first in 2:07.51.
Richmond closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, as the A relay team touched first in 3:25.90. to capture the victory over the Dukes.
The Spiders return to the water on Feb. 5-7 for the Cavalier Invite at Virginia.

RICHMOND, Va. – Coming down to the final event of the afternoon, James Madison swim & dive was edged out by Richmond, 151-148, in a Friday dual meet inside Robins Center Natatorium.
The Dukes capitalized on five individual swimming events and senior Maddie O’Mera swept both diving events.

Diving
- O’Mera won the 3-meter board with her third consecutive showing in a dual meet of a 300-point score, scoring 314.33. Redshirt junior Natalie Jones followed her in second place with a score of 266.25.
- On the 1-meter board, O’Mera became the fifth Duke in program history to score 320 points or better in six dives in the event as she won with a score of 320.33. Jones finished second with a score of 288.08.
Individual Swimming
- Sophomore Madison Wimmer led off the individual swimming events with a win in the 1000 Free, swimming a time of 10:22.43.
- In the 200 Fly, sophomore Maddy Coombs took first place by nearly four seconds with a time of 2:04.71. She beat out Richmond’s Kaitlyn Martin’s time of 2:08.59. In addition, Coombs finished third in the 500 Free with a time of 5:09.85.
- JMU picked up wins in both the 50 Free and 100 Free thanks to senior Jamie Cornwell. The Gainesville, Va. native swam times of 23.77 and 51.57, respectively.
- Senior Riley Nugent earned a victory in the 500 Free, narrowly winning behind a time of 5:06.22. She also added a third-place finish in the 200 Free (1:55.49).
Relay Swimming
- JMU’s top finishes in both relays during the meet was second place.
- The team of freshman Maria Costa, classmate Emma Dougherty, senior Alex Volk and Cornwell swam a time of 1:45.53 in the 200 Medley Relay.
- In the 400 Free Relay, Volk, freshman Emory Hill, Wimmer and Cornwell swam a combined time of 3:30.24.
Up Next
The Dukes return home tomorrow, Jan. 24 for a dual meet against Navy inside Savage Natatorium. The diving portion of the meet begins at 10 a.m. with swimming to follow at noon, as the meet will also feature Senior Day recognitions prior to swimming beginning.
