Rice’s Marie-Claire Schillinger Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

IRVING, Texas – After earning three consecutive weekly awards, the Rice Swimming program has tied defending Conference USA Champion FIU for the most overall league awards to this point in the season with five as a team. Owl freshman Marie-Claire Schillinger becomes the latest to join the league’s weekly awards slate, after recording one of the fastest times in school history this last week.

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Marie-Claire Schillinger, Rice | Fr.| Orinda, California
Schillinger recorded one of the fastest times in Rice program history en route to winning two individual events, while also swimming on four winning Owl relays last weekend at the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio. The true freshman won the meet’s 100-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:02.73, etching the third-fastest mark in the Rice record books to equal the top time in Conference USA so far this season. On day two, Schillinger came back to win the 200-breastsroke with a steady time of 2:15.91. Additionally, the Orinda, California-native showed some versatility by reaching the championship final of the 100-freestyle, where she finished sixth overall. As a team, Rice won the three-day Invitational meet featuring a full program of 18 swim events. This is the rookie’s first award of 2015 and her early career, and the fifth overall for the Owls as a squad in 2015.
