Remi Fabiani on ASU Relay Success: “Herbie’s a very capable coach”

2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Last night ASU continued their relay dominance in Atlanta, winning the 400 medley relay to make it 3-for-4 so far in the meet with one relay remaining. Diving in with a .8 deficit, 5th-year transfer Remi Fabiani pulled even with Texas by the 350, and by the finishing wall, Fabiani touched nearly half a second ahead.

After the race, Fabiani sang head coach Herbie Behm’s praises, saying he fully believes Behm is not just a great sprint coach but a great coach for anyone who wants to buy into the ASU program and culture.

Wow, Fabiani is a great spokesman for Herbie Behm. He was saying in the last interview that he was burned out, thinking he didn’t want to swim anymore. To go from that to this kind of joy and positivity, saying that he’s now finding swimming to be fun is wonderful. And to do that while also dropping time is a mark of very strong coaching.

Love to see the different hubs like this, the sprinting of ASU, distance free of florida, the IM group of Texas, Cal backstroke, IU breastroke.

Very thoughtful. I think team members speaking like this about their team says a lot about the culture of their program and is a huge credit to their coach.

Really poignant, lovely words.
