Day two of the Eastern Zone Sectionals in Buffalo saw Eagle Swim Team 16-year-old Justin Shi set two new personal best times en route to back-to-back event wins.
He started the day with a personal best time in the prelims of the 100 fly, touching in 54.46. He dropped about a second from his pre-meet best time of 55.34 from July of 2025. In the final, he swam 54.91 to earn the top time by six hundredths over 17-year-old Carter Kobielski from Star Swimming.
Shi followed that performance up with the win in the boys’ 400 IM final, stopping the clock in 4:28.78 to take four seconds off his previous best 4:32.63 from July. He won the event by seven seconds over NBAC 14-year-old Jude Burkhart, who swam 4:35.62, which was a second add from his lifetime best 4:34.68.
NBAC also had a 14-year-old in the girls’ 400 IM in the form of Willa Kulp. She swam the top time of 4:56.00, dropping from the 4:56.67 mark she set in January. Overall, she has dropped almost three seconds this season from the 4:58.73 she swam in July.
Regan Carpenter, from Annapolis Swim Club, finished 2nd in the event, touching in 5:00.77 to take six seconds off the 5:06.51 mark she swam in March of 2024.
