Pieroni, Amaltdinov Named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week

Indiana’s Blake Pieroni and Purdue’s Marat Amaltdinov were named Big Ten co-swimmers of the week. Pieroni won the 200 free in 1:36.54 to lead Indiana to a win over Purdue. Amaltdinov won the 200 breast at that meet in 1:59.68. Diver of the week honors went to Indiana’s Joshua Arndt, while freshman of the week went to Purdue’s Max Showalter.

Co-Swimmers of the Week

Blake Pieroni, Indiana

So. – Valparaiso, Ind. – Chesterton

  • Recorded a first-place touch in the 200-yard freestyle en route to an Indiana win over Purdue
  • Time of 1:36.54 in the 200-yard freestyle is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark
  • Earns his third career Swimmer of the Week honor
  • Last Indiana Swimmer of the Week: Ali Khalafalla (Nov. 11, 2015)

 

Marat Amaltdinov, Purdue

So. – Orenburg, Russia – Moscow Olympic Reserve N3

  • Collected a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:59.68) and added a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.53) and 200-yard medley relay (1:29.91) against Indiana
  • Time in the 200-yard breaststroke is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark
  • Earns his third career Swimmer of the Week honor
  • Last Purdue Swimmer of the Week: Marat Amaltdinov (Nov. 25, 2015)

 

Diver of the Week

Joshua Arndt, Indiana 

Jr. – La Porte, Ind. – La Porte

  • Finished first in the one-meter diving event with a career-best 371.70 points, and added a second-place finish in the platform event with a mark of 305.85 points in the dual meet win over Purdue
  • Scores in both events are NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns his first career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Indiana Diver of the Week: Michael Hixon (Jan. 20, 2015)

 

Freshman of the Week

Max Showalter, Purdue 

Oak Park, Ill. – International Connections Academy

  • Earned top honors in the tower diving event with a score of 365.40 points, and placed fourth in one-meter diving with a score of 273.60 points against Indiana
  • Score in platform diving was 59 points higher than the second-place finisher, and was an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark
  • Earns his first career Freshman of the Week honor
  • Last Purdue Freshman of the Week: Joe Cifelli (Jan. 20, 2016)
