Olympic Trials Qualifier Justine Murdock Verbals to Northwestern for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Atlantis Swimming’s Justine Murdock has verbally committed to Northwestern’s class of 2025. She joins #5 Ashley StrouseKenisha Gupta, and Emily Trieschmann in NU’s class of 2025.

I am so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Northwestern University! Thank you to my coaches, teammates, family and friends who have supported me throughout this long but fun process. I can’t wait to be a Wildcat!!

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 100 back – 54.36
  • 200 back – 1:56.48
  • 200 IM – 2:05.62
  • 100m back – 1:02.35
  • 200m back – 2:12.90

Murdock clocked a fourth-place effort in the 200 back at the 2019 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East, hitting her lifetime best 1:56.48. She also placed 17th in the 100 back at that meet (54.36). Competing for Cranbrook-Kingswood High School at the 2019 MHSAA (Michigan) Division III Champs, Murdock claimed state titles in the 100 back (54.53) and 200 IM (2:05.62).

In long course, Murdock has secured Olympic Trials cuts in the 100 and 200 back.

Northwestern had a strong backstroke group last season led by the versatile Calypso Sheridan and freshman standout Emma Lepisova.  Sheridan led the Wildcats in the sprint back this season, going 23.84 in the 50 and 51.31 in the 100. Lepisova had a remarkable leap after just one season with the Wildcats, going from 55.19 in the 100 and 1:57.77 in the 200 in high school to 52.36 in the 100 and 1:52.80 in the 200 at the 2020 B1G Championships. The outgoing Krystal Lara was a B1G A-finalist in both backstrokes this past season, too, ending the year right behind Lepisova.

Murdock will have two years of overlap with Lepisova. With her best times, Murdock would’ve made the 200 back B-final and 100 back C-final at the 2020 B1G Championships.
