2016 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS

The first night of Olympic Trials is over. The king of the time drops so far, Brandon Fiala (-3.4% in the 100 breast this morning, the largest of anyone it the meet so far) , came back to earth adding back .6 of the 2.1 seconds he dropped this morning. The largest women’s time drop this morning, Bethany Galat (-2.2%, 400 IM), managed to drop another .7 from her prelim time. It was only good enough for third, but from a 19 seed, third is incredible.

The biggest drop in each final came from the event winner.

The best collective performances of the session came in the men’s 400 free where 5 of the 8 swimmers were quicker than this morning, the only event above 50%.
