The 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup kicked off today in Carmel, Indiana. We’re being treated to a plethora of stars, both domestic and international, including Australians, Japanese and Europeans.
We saw a handful of records bite the dust during this morning’s prelims, including at the hands of Mona McSharry in the women’s 200m breaststroke.
During this morning’s heats, the 25-year-old Irish ace ripped a time of 2:19.95 to sneak under the 2:20 barrier for the first time in her career, claiming the third seed for tonight’s main event in the process.
Kate Douglass fired off a new U.S. Open Record of 2:15.99 to land lane four while South Africa’s Rebecca Meder nabbed the second seed in 2:19.11. Australian Ella Ramsay was the only other sub-2:20 swimmer in 2:19.98 for slot #4.
As for McSharry, the Paris Olympic medalist’s career-swiftest entering this competition rested at the 2:20.19 posted at the 2021 Short Course World Championships. That effort landed the former University of Tennessee ace 7th but she did earn bronze in her better event of the 100m breast there in Abu Dhabi.
