2025 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Oliver Morgan took his short course 100 back to a new level this morning, earning the top seed with a time of 49.55. With this time, he handily beat his own best time of 50.91 and Liam Tancock’s supersuited British national record of 50.14.

The record does not come as a surprise, given that the 22-year-old has brought Tancock’s long course 100 back record by .6 in the past two years. Nonetheless, it’s a statement swim for prelims, and it’s faster than anyone else in the field has been this season so far.

100 49.55 (25.78) 50.14 (26.27)

Morgan leveraged a strong back half to separate himself from Tancock and from the Lublin field. The 2025 Singapore Worlds finalist will have two more chances to bring the record down even further.

Coming in second was Czech national Miroslav Knedla in 49.99. He also became the first person from his country sub-50. Tomas Franta held the previous Czech record at 50.39 from 2022. Jan Cejka swam a 50.37 the heat before Knedla for a minute of national record-holding glory.
