Oakland Combines For 24 Wins In Sweep of Cleveland State

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams tallied a combined 24 first place finishes en route to a 175-86 win on the men’s side, and a 197-59 victory for the women over Horizon League foe Cleveland State Friday night from the Oakland Aquatic Center.

Susan LaGrand placed first in all three races of the day including the 200 medley relay (1:43.96), 200 free (1:52.08) and the 200 back (2:00.62).

Sydney McDowell placed first in three races of her own including the 200 medley relay (1:43.96), 200 free relay (1:36.51) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.31).

In the 100 backstroke, Kiera Brough (58.44) and Jewel Huang (58.60) took the top two spots on the women’s side, while Marko Khoytnetskyi (48.83) and William Gayne (50.57) led the men.

Brough guided the Golden Grizzlies in the 400 IM (4:32.41), with teammates Julia Cook (4:34.69) and Madelyn Cislo (4:35.71) finishing second and third respectively.

The Oakland men took the top three spots in the 200 free, led by Mack Flowers (1:39.82), Andrew Bernsdorf (1:42.78) and Philip DeJonge (1:45.57).

In addition to his first place finish in the 100 backstroke, Khoytnetskyi added three more in the 200 backstroke (1:46.80), 200 free relay (1:21.84), and 200 medley relay (1:29.42).

Redshirt sophomore Christian Bart went a perfect four-of-four in first place finishes beginning with the 200 medley relay (1:29.42), 100 breaststroke (54.80), 100 free (45.63), and 200 free relay (1:21.84).

Next week the men’s team will compete at Miami (Ohio) Feb. 26-27. The women’s squad will travel to Eastern Michigan Feb. 26-27.
