Women’s Meet
Notre Dame 156.5 – 143.5 Northwestern
Notre Dame started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley, when the A team of Catherine Mulquin, Danielle Margheret, Cat Galletti and Tayde Revilak touched the pads in 1:42.21, way ahead of 2nd place finishers, Northwestern (1:44.15).
Northwestern had a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000-yard, with Lauren Abruzzo touching 1st (10:10.48), Ellen Anderson 2nd (10:13.45) and Sydney Modeas 3rd (10:19.55).
The Fighting Irish redeemed themselves in the next event, with Ella Moynihan touching 1st and Kyra Sarazen touching 2nd in times of 1:50.74 and 1:50.76 respectively. Moynihan went on to dominate the women’s 500-yard free, touching in 4:58.57, almost 3 seconds ahead of Anderson, who finished 2nd in 5:01.57.
Mulquin and Margheret came off of their relay swims to win the 100-yard back (54.71) and 100-yard breast (1:03.76) events respectively. Their teammate Nicole Smith took the victory in the 200-yard fly in 2:01.33, more than a second ahead of the field.
Northwestern’s Mary Warren won the 50-yard free in 23.27, just ahead of Mullein, who finished in 23.50. Mullein took another 2nd place finish in the 100-yard free (51.22), finishing just behind Northwestern’s Annika Winsnes (50.55).
The first Wildcat double winner, Lacey Locke, took victories in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.78) and the 200-yard IM (2:03.89). Her teammate and second double winner for the team, Olivia Rosendahl, scored a lifetime best in the 1m (298.35) and 334.70 points in the 3m.
Notre Dame won the final event, giving them valuable points to just edge out Northwestern to win the meet. The A relay team of Revilak, Moynihan, Meaghan O’Donnell and Margheret touched in 3:31.36, just ahead of Northwestern’s A team, who finished in 3:32.25.
Men’s Meet
Notre Dame 166 – 132 Northwestern
Another close meet on the men’s side, but the Fighting Irish got off to a good start when they got a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The A team of Bogac Ayhan, Andrew Jensen, Matthew Grauslys and Daniel Speers touched the pads in 1:31.20, just ahead of their teammates on the B relay, who finished in 1:31.83.
Northwestern’s Carter Page was a double winner in the distance free events, winning the 1000-yard free and 500-yard free in times of 9:22.93 and 4:35.01 respectively. His teammate Anthony Marcantonio was also a double winner, winning the 200-yard free (1:39.52) and 200-yard IM (1:50.54).
Ayhan returned to the pool to win the 100-yard backstroke in 48.92, he also placed 2nd in the 100-yard fly (50.09), behind teammate Grauslys, who clocked in in 49.57. The fighting Irish took another victory in the 200-yard back, when Robby Whitacre touched the pads in 1:48.30, just ahead of Northwestern’s Marcantonio (1:49.15). Northwestern went on capture a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard breast, with Trent Jackson finishing in 2:04.59 and Maciej Olszewski finishing in 2:06.80.
Justin Plaschka earned worthy points for the Fighting Irish, after winning both the 50-yard and 100-yard free events, clocking in in times of 20.58 and 45.74 respectively.
The Fighting Irish went on to defeat the Wildcats in the final event, with the A team of Reed Fujan, Michael Hudspith, Jackson and Dan Fujan finishing in 3:02.49, more than a second ahead of the Wildcats A team, who finished in 3:03.89.
