VERMILLION, S.D. — The UNI swimming and diving team put on a show on Friday and Saturday in its second meet of the season, capturing the team title with 14 event wins at the Coyote Extravaganza at the USD Natatorium.
Competition started on Friday with the 400-yard medley relay that saw the team of Elyse Brayton, Neriah Giedrys, Hannah Nedder and Morgan Meyer take first place with a winning time of 3:52.68. Natalie Harris followed by taking third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.14) with Jennifer Barajas in fourth (1:57.55) and Natalie Kuboushek in fifth (1:58.23).
UNI swept the top three spots on the podium in the 50-yard freestyle as freshman Charlotte Sander took top prize with a time of 23.94, with Abby Lear and Meyer following closely behind in second (24.04) and third (24.05).
Sam Oeltjen saw success in the 400-yard individual medley as she took first with a time of 4:38.59, while Nikki Walters followed right behind in second (4:38.80). Action in the 100-yard butterfly saw Nedder take second at 57.55 with Walters and Harris following in close suit in fourth and fifth with times of 58.77 and 59.62.
Meyer showed dominance in the 100-yard freestyle as she took first place with a winning time of 51.96, as Averie Bilskemper and Sander tied for third with a time of 53.33. Continuing to the 100-yard backstroke, Brayton and Morgan Raether went first and second with times of 57.29 and 57.60. Abigail Barkhurst swam a time of 5:10.99 in the 500-yard freestyle to take first in the event, as freshman Cassidy Miklos came close behind in fifth (5:16.49).
Night one ended with the 200-yard freestyle relay that saw success for the Panthers as Sander, Lear, Raether and Meyer claimed first with a winning time of 1:34.98, as the quad of Bilskemper, Nedder, Brayton, and Molly Johnson took fourth with a time of 1:37.95.
Saturday’s competition started off with the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the team of Brayton, Giedrys, Nedder and Lear take first at 1:47.93. Meyer topped the podium again in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.48).
Sander took first again in the 50-yard freestyle for a second straight day with a time of 23.88, shaving off six hundredths of a second from her previous time from Friday. Lear and Raether closely took fifth and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 24.71 and 24.73.
Action in the 200-yard butterfly saw Walters secure third place with a time of 2:09.65. Meyer continued to show her speed again in the 100-yard freestyle as she stood on top in 52.65, as Nedder took fifth (55.23) and Parton in ninth (55.77). Brayton took home second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.65), with Raether in fourth (2:09.19) and Pasqualicchio in fifth (2:09.81).
Aird finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.85, as Johnson took seventh in the 100-yard individual medley (1:01.98). UNI closed out the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, led by the squad of Meyer, Lear, Raether and Bilskemper, posting a time of 3:33.30.
In the diving well, the Panthers swept both the one and three-meter competitions as Avery Hogan took first place on the one-meter boards (247.40), with Erica Peters following in second (246.80) and Trista Thompson in third (238.50). Thompson meanwhile, would win the three-meter competition with a score of 257.85, followed by Peters in second (252.85) and Hogan in fourth (245.00).

The Panthers return to the pool Nov. 18-21 as they travel to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational.

VERMILLION, S.D. — The University of South Dakota hosted the Coyote Extravaganza in the USD Natatorium and came away with a win on the men’s side and a third-place finish for the women’s team. The Yotes had 13 individual wins across both teams and a relay win on the men’s side. On the meet, South Dakota posted nine new Natatorium pool records.
DAY ONE
Women’s Results
On day one, the USD women had one champion in the 100 fly with Gabbie Ahrendt taking first with a time of 57.17.
Other highlights of day one include Tatum O’Shea’s second place finish in the 200 free in 1:56.56 and Dawsyn Green’s third place finish in the 400 IM in 4:40.71. Henley Hatzung was also third in the 100 back with a time of 58.03, Emily DiProspero was third in the 500 free in 5:12.82, and Taylor Buhr took third in the 100 breast in 1:06.65.
The women’s team also had a second-place finish in the 200 free relay with the team of Hatzung, Anna Balfanz, Alex Peterson, and Madilyn Gehrke.
South Dakota ended the day at second in the team standings with 961.5 points.
Men’s Results
The men’s team came out of day one with five wins, including two by Nick Rounds in the 100 fly (49.60) and 100 back (48.92). Other champions were Alex Parkinson in the 500 free with a time of 4:38.68 and Maddox Mork in the three meter dive with a score of 284.15.
The last win was in the 400 medley relay with the team of Joaquin Contreras-Fallico, Ethan LaBounty, Rounds, and James Schreiber.
Charlie Matthews also had a good day in the three meter dive, as he took second with a score of 271.05. Will Barth followed up Parkinson in the 500 free for a second place finish in 4:39.62.
Schreiber tied for second in the 50 free with a time of 21.22 and Contreras-Fallico took second in the 100 back in 50.96. The relay team of Matthew Sorbe, David Mayer, Schreiber, and Rounds took second in the 200 free relay.
The lone third place finish on the day was Parkinson in the 400 IM in 4:07.43.
After day one, South Dakota led on the men’s side with 1016.5 points.
DAY TWO
Women’s Results
Ahrendt kept the wins coming on day two as she took first in the 200 fly in 2:09.07 and the 100 IM in 59.52. She was also a part of the second place 400 free relay team with teammates Gehrke, DiProspero, and Hatzung, as well as the third place 200 medley relay team with Buhr, Hatzung, and Madeline Schrank.
The other day two champions were Camilla Brogger-Andersen and Hatzung. Brogger-Andersen took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:45.43 while Hatzung won the 200 back in 2:04.38.
Peterson took a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.51. Buhr swam the 200 IM in 2:11.94 for a seond place finish. Schrank was also second when she finished the 200 fly in 2:09.56. and lastly Hatzung was second in the 200 back with a time of 1:47.37.
DiProspero picked up a third place in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.53. Madysen Schmidt was the lone top-three diver for USD with a third place finish in the three meter dive.
The Coyotes compiled 1909 team points for a third place finish out of five teams.
Men’s Results
Parkinson got another win on day two as he took the 1000 free in 9:30.78. Contreras-Fallico won the 200 back with a time of 1:52.46, and Brock Russell took the 200 IM in 1:54.02.
Rounds picked up his third win of the meet when he swam the 50 free in 20.31.
Barth had two more second place finishes, one in the 200 free in 1:44.41 and one in the 200 fly in 1:54.47. Schreiber also got his second runner up in the 100 free in 46.17.
Mork was the high scoring Coyote in the one meter dive. His score of 279.15 gave him second place in the event. Matthews was once again close behind with a third place finish and a score of 267.25.
The 200 medley relay team of Contreras-Fallico, LaBounty, Dylan Alt, and Rounds took second with a time of 1:31.75. The 400 free relay team of Schreiber, Rounds, Barth, and Mayer took second in 3:05.50.
South Dakota stayed on top with 2044.5 team points to give them first out of the four attending teams.

UP NEXT
The Yotes will conclude their fall season later this month when they travel to the St. Thomas Invite in St. Paul, Minn. This will be a three day event starting on Thursday, November 20 and going until Saturday, November 22.

VERMILLION — The South Dakota State women’s swimming and diving team put together a big second day of competition at the Coyote Extravaganza on Saturday to come away with a runner-up finish out of five teams.
Sophomore Emma Ingalls recorded the lone individual title for the Jackrabbits on the day as she clocked a winning time of 2 minutes, 10.59 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley. Teammate Kailee Crane placed third in 2:12.93, with Hailey Creary taking fourth in 2:13.17.
Ingalls also contributed a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, 2:11.78.
Gigi Hioki and Marissa Branham contributed runner-up finishes. After winning the 200 freestyle on Friday, Hioki placed second in the event on Saturday with a time of 1:55.20 to finish behind Morgan Meyer of Northern Iowa (1:54.48). Aubrey Douds placed fourth for the Jackrabbits in 1:59.94.
Hioki later added another runner-up finish behind Meyer in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.74 seconds to lead a group of four Jackrabbits in the top six of the event. Hannah Miller placed third in 54.26 seconds, followed by Mia Pendleton in fourth place (:54.35) and Douds in sixth (:55.55).
Branham, meanwhile, posted a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.46.
Elsewhere in the freestyle events, Elyse Jahn paced a trio of Jackrabbits in the top five of the 1,000-yard race. Jahn placed third in 10:56.20, with Poppy Mead right behind in the fourth place (10:56.26) and freshman Marissa Renaud claiming fifth in 10:57.51.
Senior Jenna Currier tallied a pair of top-five finishes Saturday with a third-place showing in the 100 IM (1:00.39) and fourth-place effort in the 50 freestyle (:24.70). Sara Juez placed fourth in the 100 IM (1:00.64).
Currier also teamed with Miller, Pendleton and Hioki for a third-place finish in the final event of the weekend, the 400 freestyle relay. The Jackrabbit quartet combined for a time of 3:34.12.
Closing out the listing of top-three individual finishes was freshman Lucia Lopez in the 200 backstroke, 2:09.16.
The Jackrabbits overtook host South Dakota for the second spot in the team standings. Northern Iowa earned the team championship with 2,121 points, followed by SDSU with 1,926.5. USD finished third with 1,909 points, with St. Cloud State (1,371.5) and Augustana (1,165) rounding out the field.

The Jackrabbits will be in training for nearly three weeks before closing out the fall semester at the St. Thomas Invite Nov. 20-22 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
