No. 5 Wolfpack Men Ready For West Coast Trip

RALEIGH, N.C.- Off to a 1-0 ledger in its regular season, the No. 5 NC State men’s swimming and diving team will take its turn competing on the west coast, as it will face No. 2 California Friday and No. 7 Stanford Saturday.

Friday’s contest is slated for a 6 p.m. ET start at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, Calif., while Saturday’s matchup is set to start at 3 p.m. ET at Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif.

Holloway’s Statement

“We’re excited to take our men out to the west coast and face two great teams. California is coming off of three national championship titles in the last five years, which is impressive,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “Stanford’s program has been around for over 100 years, and is a team that always finishes in the top five at NCAAs. Both are well-coached teams and have some of the most respectable coaches in the country that produce great performances year in and year out.”

“For our men’s program to keep moving forward, we have to keep testing and challenging ourselves. This weekend will be the biggest test we’ve ever had. Being on the west coast swimming outdoors is a bit out of our comfort zone, but our men want this challenge.

“They’re excited for the trip and to have the opportunity to represent NC State on the west coast, and what better way to do it by going against two of the top teams in California and in the nation.”

Last Time Out

In its last time out, NC State tabbed a win over Florida State in its home opener for the 2015-16 season. The Wolfpack women defeated the Seminoles, 200-99, to improve to 3-0 on the regular season, while NC State men earned a 197-103 win over FSU to start its dual season off with a 1-0 ledger.

Collectively, the Pack won 27 of the 32 events contested on the day.

Scouting California and Stanford

Last season at the NCAA Championships, Cal took the runner-up spot at the NCAA Championships behind Texas while Stanford finished sixth.

In the first CSCAA ranking of the season California checked in at No. 2 behind defending NCAA Champion Texas, while Stanford was listed at No. 7, two spots behind the Wolfpack.

Prior to the weekend slate, both squads faced each other in a triple distance meet on Wednesday. Through the meet didn’t count towards the regular season standings, Cal won five of the six different types of swimming contested. California will enter the weekend with a 2-0 record while the Cardinal holds a 1-0 record on the dual season.
