SALT LAKE CITY – The 14th-ranked Utah men’s swimming and diving team will take on the Wyoming Cowboys this Saturday, Dec. 5 in Green River, Wyo. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. MT.
“We are excited to renew a regional rivalry with Wyoming this Saturday,” said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. “We haven’t had a dual against them in a number of years so it will be fun for our guys to race another regional powerhouse program. I’m also excited that we can bring a collegiate meet to the community of Green River after they’ve just built a brand new natatorium. We have had a lot of kids from that area come to our summer campus so it will be neat to be able to show that community a college competition.”
UTAH NOTES
The men’s squad is currently ranked 14th in the nation, according to the recent poll released by collegeswimming.com/ after recently capturing the Art Adamson Invitational. The Utes posted 22 NCAA qualifying times and set three school records during the three-day meet.
Bence Kiraly won the 1650 free in 14:50.19. He also won the 200 free with a new personal-best time of 1:36.06 and the 500 free in 4:16.79. Kristian Kron was second in the 500 free and also won the 400 IM (3:46.77), breaking his own school record in the process. Kron also placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.02.
Jack Burton finished third in the 100 breast with a time of 53.93 and second in the 200 breast (1:56.80). Daniel McArthur set the school record in the 100 back (2nd place – 47.72) and then placed second in the 200 back.
WYOMING NOTES
Wyoming is ranked No. 35 in the nation by collegeswimming.com and recently competed in the Purdue Invitational. The Cowboys took second behind the host Boilermakers with 668.5 points.
UP NEXT
The men will take a break from competition until 2016. They will return to the pool on Jan. 23 where they will take on BYU.
