Nina Mollin to Head North of the Border, Commits to University of Toronto

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

From Schaumburg, Illinois, Nina Mollin has announced that she will be swimming for the University of Toronto beginning in the fall of 2022. One of the top swimmers in Illinois, Mollin swims for the Academy Bullets Swim Club as well as for Schaumburg High School. Mollin holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada and represents Canada internationally.

Earlier this year, Mollin competed at the Canadian Olympic Trials, where she finished 10th in the 400 IM as one of the youngest competitors in the field. She was just off of her seed time of 4:54.18, touching in 4:55.85.

In the US, she was a multiple event finalist at the 2021 NCSA Junior National Championships in March. Her top finish came in the 1000 free where she touched in 4th with a time of 9:58.69. She also finished 7th in the 500 free (4:51.29) and 9th in the 400 IM (4:16.61). In 2019 she finished as the runner-up in the 200 IM at the IHSA Girl’s Swimming and Diving State Championships. At that meet, she finished with a time of 2:02.44 in finals.

Mollin will be joining a University of Toronto team that is, in part, led by assistant head coach Linda Kiefer, who was just named to Canada’s Olympic coaching staff for the games in Toronto. During Kiefer’s tenure at Toronto, she has coached athletes such as 2016 Olympian Kylie Masse and 2012 Canadian open water champion Zsofi Balazs.

Toronto, which competes in U SPORTS, Canada’s version of the NCAA, finished in 2nd at the 2020 U SPORTS Championships. At that meet, Mollin would have been a key contributor for the Varsity Blues, as her lifetime bests would have scored points in all of her primary events.
