Nihipali Garners Corvias ECAC Division I Swimmer of the Week

Danbury, CT – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has named junior Anu Nihipali(Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) of the Wagner women’s swimming & diving team the Corvias ECAC Division I Swimmer of the Week, for the week ending December 6.

The ECAC honor comes on the heels of Nihipali being tabbed as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimmer of the Week for the second straight week as it also marks the third citation of the season for Nihipali.

The Honolulu, HI native put forth a tremendous showing, competing at the 2015 AT&T US Winter Nationals this past weekend at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA for the second straight year.

Nihipali capped off the weekend qualifying for the 2016 United States Olympic Trials, making her the first swimmer to ever do so in Wagner history. Nihipali finished 23rd overall in the 100-Meter Backstroke with a US Olympic Trials qualifying time of 1:02.77.

On Dec. 9, the Aloha State native was featured on the on the latest installment of the NEC Women’s Swimming & Diving Google Hangout, presented by GEICO. Nihipali spoke with NEC Media Relations Intern, Amber Bepko, for approximately 15 minutes as the two discussed the 2015-16 Seahawk squad, her successes so far this season, her swimming background and her appearance at Winter Nationals.

Nihipali was one of three Seahawk swimmers to represent Wagner at the Winter Nationals, joining senior Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton) and junior Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy).  The trio competed alongside some of the top swimmers in the United States, such as Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin, Nathan Adrian and Missy Franklin.
