For the first time since the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, Nic Fink got back to racing, as he swam the 50 breaststroke at the GA Long Course Kickoff in Atlanta.
Fink clocked a 27.73 in the 50 breast, his only race of the meet. That time is well off his lifetime best of 26.45, which he swam at the 2022 World Championships, making him the first American man ever to win the event.
Fink notably won silver in the 100 breast in Paris, clocking 59.05. And was the American breaststroker on both the 4 x 100 medley relay that won silver, splitting 58.97.
He was also a key piece of the American mixed 4×100 medley relay that won gold and set the world record in 3:37.43, including a 58.29 split from Fink.
Since his last competitive races, Fink was named to the University of Georgia’s ’40 Under 40′ class of 2025 list, which recognizes outstanding alumni based on their personal, professional, and philanthropic achievements.
Fink also holds a position on the USA Swimming Board of Directors, serving as vice chair of the Athlete Advisory Council under fellow Olympic breaststroker Lilly King, who was elected chairperson in November.
In January, he began working full-time as a Design Engineer at HBK Engineering; Fink has also been known to train in the water while working full-time as an engineer.
Fink previously held the American record in the 50 breast, with that 26.45, until Van Mathias lowered that standard to 26.39 at the Bergen Swim Festival in April, moving him up to #8 all time in the event.

Wow .. US Men’s breaststroke peaking fr. Can’t wait to watch Nic duke it out with the newcomers Van, McKean and legends like Michael Andrew

1.2 is considered well off when you haven’t competed in 2 years?
Well, to a degree ‘yeah.’ But he is still one of our best hopes. I’m just wondering how much he’s continued training during this competitive break.
