DENTON, Texas – On Friday, NM State Swimming & Diving took on North Texas in a road bout from the Lone Star State. The Aggies returned to the pool for the first time in four weeks, toppling the Mean Green by a score of 137-103. With eight of 13 event wins, the group picked up its first dual meet victory of the season in its final outing before the campaign resumes in 2026.

Head Coach Rick Pratt, on the victory: “Coming off of Thanksgiving, having finals, then getting ready for the holidays is always a tricky section of the season. Despite all that, and the travel, today was a lot of fun. We had good energy, focus on details and raced hard. This is a special group and I’m proud of their efforts this fall, and super excited for the new year. Happy Holidays and go Aggies!”

The day began with a 2-3 finish in the 200 medley relay from the Crimson & White. In the 1000 free, Katie Rink cruised to victory (10:35.69), with teammate Riley Crespo rounding out the podium in third at 11:06.56. The 200 free belonged to the Aggies, with Naomi Slee (1:55.72) and Dreamer Kowatch (1:57.64) taking the top two spots.

Shortly after, Dijana Mazumdar proved to be the quickest swimmer in the pool, blazing her way to a 24.43 in the 50 free, while Callie Ceshker’s mark of 25.09 earned her a bronze medal. Kodi Wiman was the lone Aggie on the podium in the 200 IM, but the junior still managed to touch the wall first (2:09.77).

The first diving event of the day was from three meters, with the hosts earning most of the points. Mira Tinani was the only Aggie to crack the top five in the event, scoring a 263.70. Later in the afternoon, the Canadian topped the leaderboard with a 269.55 in the 1m dive. Across both dives, Peytton Moore was the second-highest scoring Aggie in sixth place.

Willow Messner and Faye McDonagh (58.45 and 1:00.51) both reached the top three during the 100 fly, just mere hundredths of a second ahead of two fellow teammates in Ellen Osthelder and Dreamer Kowatch.

As was the case in the 50 free, Mazumdar and Ceshker went 1-3 in the 100 free, doing so with marks of 52.07 and 54.43, respectively. Yet another pair of Aggies entered the podium in the ensuing event, as Emily Dobbins (58.61) and Thea Masselink (59.16) went 2-3 in the 100 back.

Naomi Slee bested the pool in the 500 free (5:07.73), while teammate and 1000 free champion Katie Rink came in shortly after for a second-place finish at 5:13.02.

The 100 breast saw Kodi Wiman grab a third-place time at 1:06.54, ahead of two fellow teammates in the top five (Foteini Charitou and Faye McDonagh). The penultimate event of the day concluded and brought about the final race of Friday, the 200 free relay.

A quartet of Mazumdar, Dobbins, Caroline Costantini and Rink teamed up for a pool-best 1:36.92 mark, taking the crown in the final event of the afternoon. While UNT came in at 1:38.32, NM State’s second grouping of Jamie Puhalski, Ceshker, Messner and Slee was not far behind at 1:39.33. The day ended with 22 of 39 top-three spots belonging to the Aggies, granting them a 34-point victory in the dual.

DENTON, Texas – The UNT swimming and diving team dropped a hard-fought dual meet with New Mexico State on Friday in the Mean Green’s final meet before the holiday break.

The Aggies won the meet, 137-103, but UNT had several strong performances in the pool and on the boards.

UNT was led in the pool by freshman Vivian Anderson and sophomore Mikaela Goelst, who both helped lead the 200 medley relay team that notched a Mean Green win, along with Maria Mitova and Scarlett McCloud. Anderson also won the 100 backstroke, while Goelst scored a win in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Jette Schindler also got a victory for UNT in the 100 butterfly.

“We had a solid showing in our last meet of the semester,” head coach Brittany Roth said. “I’m really encouraged with the performance of our athletes today coming off of a training block that leans into their dedication and determination. We had strong swims from our medley relay to kick off the meet, then Kayleigh Lovell had a great swim in the 1000, taking that race out in her best 500 of the season without a tech suit. (Maria Jose Sanchez Castro) and Jette (Schindler) had strong 200 IMs. Our 100s were on fire today with Jette getting the win in the 100 fly, Viv in the 100 back, and Mikaela & Majo touching 1-2 in the 100 breast. Overall as a team, they brought great energy to the deck, and they had a whole team effort. This meet was a great way to send off into a bit of time for the team to reconnect with their friends and family as we look to second semester.”

In the diving events, senior Kamryn Wong missed the program record in the 3-meter springboard by just more than a half-point with a 350.25 to win the event by more than 80 points, and she added a third-place finish in the 1-meter springboard. Sophomore Amelia Sharp took second in both events.

The Mean Green will return to action on Jan. 3, in Miami, at the FIU Sprint Invite, before a trip to Boca Raton to face FAU on Jan. 9.
