The University of Akron women have added a new member to their recruiting class, as New Albany Aquatic Club’s Ally Wharton has given her verbal commitment to join the Zips next fall.

On her commitment:

“I committed to the University of Akron and am looking forward to becoming a Zip. I chose Akron because of the team, coaches, and academics. I love the positive energetic team culture and the coaches energy on deck. Looking forward to the 4 years as a Zip!”

Wharton is primarily a breast/IMer. Last season, she was a finalist at the Ohio State Championships. There, she swam to a 5th place finish in the 100 breast. She was also the 11th place finisher in the 200 IM with a personal best 2:06.70.

Wharton’s Top Times:

Event Best time
100 breast 1:04.07
200 breast 2:19.79
200 IM 2:06.70
400 IM 4:33.38

When she arrives at Akron, Wharton should have an immediate impact for the Zips at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Her times in the 100 breast and 200 breast are already fast enough to have scored in the B-final at the conference meet last season.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email to [email protected].
