NCAP freestyler Brandon Fabian has verbally committed to the Virginia Tech H20kies for next fall. Fabian is strongest in the 200 and 500 frees, where he has Winter Juniors cuts in both events. He trains with coach Pete Morgan at the Burke location of Nation’s Capital.
Fabian’s Top Times
- 100y free – 46.24
- 200y free – 1:39.73
- 500y free – 4:26.36
- 100y fly – 50.43
- 200m free – 1:55.89
- 400m free – 4:06.29
At last year’s Virginia 6A HS Championships, swimming for South County High School, Fabian finished 4th in the 200 free and 6th in the 100 free. He’s made big leaps in the 200 and 500 free from the 2013-14 season to last season, dropping 1.5 seconds in the 200 and a whopping 9.6 seconds in the 500 in just one year’s time.
Fabian’s best time in the 500 is just .04 off of what it took to make it back in the C final at ACCs last season, and he’s less than two seconds off of what it took to make the 200 free C final. The H20kies top 500 freestylers last season, Jake Ores and Michael Szuba, both A-finaled in that event. Ores has graduated, and Szuba will graduate after this season, so VT will be looking for mid-distance guys to step up and fill those holes.
“I am really excited to be representing my home state of Virginia and swimming for Virginia Tech… can’t wait to get into the pool for the Hokies!”
Virginia Tech adds Fabian to their class of 2020, which also includes NCAP (Claude Moore site) breaststroker Simon Shi.
