The Tom Dolan Invitational kicked off with a trio of NAG records falling.

12-year-old Destin Lasco took down the 11-12 National Age Group record in the 100 back, going 54.03 to break Ryan Murphy’s old record.

Lasco won a whole bunch of events on the night: the 500 free (4:59.13), the 200 back (2:00.56) and the 100 free (50.65).

Reece Whitley broke a 13-14 NAG record in the 100 breast, going 55.62 to break Michael Andrew’s old mark. Unfortunately for Whitley, Andrew rebroke the record later in the night at Junior Nationals finals, but Whitley is still just 13 and has plenty more time to get the record back.

The 13-14 relay from NOVA of Virginia broke a NAG record in the night’s closing event, the 800 free relay. The relay of David Dixon, Campbell Nystrom, Matthew Whelan, and Jacob Johnson went a 7:03.50, led by Johnson’s 1:43 anchor split.

Dixon also won the 400 IM for the 13-14 age group, going 4:00.38, and the 100 fly in 50.19.

NCAP’s big names didn’t compete today: most notably Katie Ledecky, Janet Hu and Andrew Seliskar.

Oops, that was still the psych sheet. Weird, normally the live results page is grey, not yellow, when an event hasn’t been completed yet.

And the live results didn’t work for me yesterday.

Seliskar’s prelim swim this morning in the 200 breast ranks him 4th all time in the 17-18 age group, with a 1:54.87.

I wonder why he didn’t swim tonight.

Little question. I see in the results a 10-year-old kid named Nicholas Malchow.
Is he the son of Tom Malchow, the 200 fly olympic champion in 2000?

Nope – Tom Malchow lives in the Seattle area.

And this year is no exception to the rule.

Already great races and very fast times.
2 NAG records.
13-year-old Reece Whitley, the giant, impressive on breaststroke. And 4.04 later in the 400 IM. Look at his 200 breast tonight.
12-year-old Destin Lasco isn’t a giant. He looks even small but what a talent. He has won the 500 free and the 200 IM on day 1. And on day 2, he won the 100 free and swam a monster 54.03 in the 100 back. I love his backstroke technique. Impressive for a 12-year-old kid.

Other things to mention.
13-year-old Sinnead Eksteen. 16.48 in the 1650 free.
17-year-old Janet Hu wins the 100 fly in… Read more »

Always an impressive meet with plenty of big performances.
I love watching that meet every year.
We can see some of the future swimming stars.
Remember Katie Ledecky in 2010. She was 13 and had swum 1.48 in the 200 free, 4.48 in the 500 free, 9.50 in the 1000 free and a great 16.20 in the 1650 free.
