12-year old Destin Lasco from Pleasantville Aquatics in Pleasantville, New Jersey, in the southern part of the state, has broken the National Age Group Record for 11-12’s in the 100 yard backstroke. Lasco swam a 54.03 in finals of the race at the Tom Dolan Invitational on Friday night, which improves that 54.20 that Ryan Murphy, now a freshman at Cal, swam in 2008.

Lasco already holds the National Age Group Records in the 50 and 100 yard back for 10 & unders, plus the 100 meter back for 10 & unders. He held the 50 meter back record took, before it was broken.

This is Lasco’s first NAG Record swimming for Pleasantville Aquatics, after being renamed and reformed from the ACAC, though he’s remained with coach Dimitar Petrov throughout his record-breaking run.

I’ve watched the race and I’m impressed by his technique.
Great to watch.
Congrats.
And he still has a few months to lower that record again before he turns 13.
