INDIANAPOLIS- Rachel Mumma of the NC State swimming and diving team completed competition Fridayafternoon at the USA Diving Winter National Championships, held inside IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.
The senior diver from Harrisburg, Pa., competed on the three-meter dive. She tallied a five-dive score of 249.30 in the preliminary round of the event to finish 16th, as the top-19 advanced to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, she notched a mark of 246.0 for an overall score of 495.30 to earn another 16th-place finish.
“We had a good run today, but didn’t quite get the results we were looking for,” said head diving coach Yahya Radman. “ We did take away some good things from this competition though. The format is very similar to what we will run into at ACCs and NCAAs in terms of timeline, so this was great practice.”
“We’re all very proud of her, this is the first time she has ever advanced to a semifinal on the three-meter at the national level. She has more confidence on the event and in herself walking away from this week,” Radman added.
“We know that when Rachel is performing to the most of her ability that she can hang with the best. Now we just have to go do our homework and work to get ready for the next part of the season.”
The Wolfpack will return to action when the diving team travels to Athens, Ga., Jan. 3-5 to compete in the Georgia Diving Invitational.
