Highlighting the prelims session of day 2 in Monaco was the men’s 100 butterfly as three men got below the 52-second mark.

After winning the 100 free last night, Hungary’s Kristof Milak swam to the fastest time of the morning with a 51.67. He has been as fast as 50.22 this season and has a lifetime best 49.68 from the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics. Andrei Minakov of Russia was 2nd this morning in a 51.76 while Noe Ponti of Switzerland was 3rd in a 51.82.

Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands won the 200 breast last night and made it through the quarterfinals of the 50 breast skins race so he will have a busy night tonight. He was the only sub-1:00 swim this morning in prelims of the 100 breast with a 59.97.

After a 2nd place finish last night, Patrick Sammon (USA) will look to make the podium again as he sits as the #2 seed in the 200 free with a 1:48.89 from this morning. Slovenia’s Samuel Kostal had the top time with a 1:48.71. Kostal also had the top time of prelims with a 4:23.32 400 IM.

Leading the way in the men’s 200 back this morning was Swiss record holder Roman Mityukov who swam a 1:58.06.

The women’s 100 free looks to be a close race as Marrit Steenbergen was first in prelims with a 53.91, touching ahead of Camille Spink (54.17) and Siobhan Haughey (54.68). Steenbergen will have a busy night as she is also in the 50 free skins race.

World Record holder Evgeniia Chikunova of Russia swam the fastest time in prelims of the 200 breast with a 2:24.98.

Leah Shackley (USA) won the 200 back last night and will look for another win after posting the top time of prelims in the 100 back with a 1:01.22. Ingrid Wilm of Canada was 2nd in a 1:01.50.

Canada’s Mary Sophie-Harvey had the fastest 200 IM by three seconds with a 2:12.45 while Soizic Gelfmann of France led the way with a  2:17.24 200 fly.

The women’s 400 free was a tight race in prelims with Erika Fairweather touching in a 4:07.79 just ahead of Agostina Hein who swam a 4:07.92.
